Skewering myriad tropes of the slippery slope to stardom in the Los Angeles theatre scene, Staged Managed takes the audience behind the scenes of a The Tarzana Family Theatre crew who have been struggling valiantly to mount successful shows, each egregious knock-offs of well-known productions like Mary Pops In, Warlock of Oz, Granny Get Your Gun, and, well, you get the idea. After receiving “consistently” bad reviews on previous shows, theater owner Victoria (Kara Gibson) tells the company they have one last chance to cast the right actors and mount an unauthorized adaptation of My Fair Lady. The pilot unravels the director Sterling (Carter Thomas), and his assistant Brittany’s (Rebecca Thomas) open call process. The pilot also follows an actress, Kate (Kate Ponzio), who has just moved from Maumee, Ohio to Hollywood in order to pursue her dreams of landing a role as a main character in the play; has-been leading man David (Derrel Maury); and “Flashdance Flo” (Nancy Lantis), among others.
Rounding out the cast is Ron Howard’s brother Clint Howard. Noland says, “We’re not really sure why Clint is there or why he cares, but he does just seem to keep popping up, offering sage advice and words of wisdom that nobody seems to heed.” Overall, the pilot brings together realistic lifestyles in Los Angeles with humor along the way in order to pull off a performance of My Fair Lassie.
Along with his accomplishment of this premiere, Noland helped to start-up a Webby Award-winning charity media initiative and has worked with production companies like Universal Studios. He now continues his love for entertainment as the Series Creator and Executive Producer at Viral Entertainment.
Director Noland also worked alongside Jill Scoggins Noland and Luis Ugaz in order to successfully produce Stage Managed. Executive producer Scoggins has served in the LA Mayor’s office to help establish the city of LA’s Gender Equity Coalition. Noland feels the series adds to her work. The LBGTQA+ community has been paramount to the creation, development, and continued nurturing of the Arts. As such, Stage Managed prominently includes LGBTQA+ characters and actors in the world of this story, because without that community the Performing Arts would not exist.”
Producer Ugaz found his love with film production after producing The World War II Memorial: A Testament to Freedom. During this time, he worked with Emmy® Award-winning director Robert Uth. He has continued with this love by continuing to produce and write for well-renowned companies like Disney and Wind Dancer Entertainment. Their diverse backgrounds and passion for the film industry has landed them a screening for their independent production alongside other works Los Angeles’ premier showcase of new works at the TCL Chinese Theatres in Los Angeles.
Arch, relatable and aimed at the soft underbelly of the entertainment industry, audiences should not miss this chance to see the pilot at this year’s Dances With Films Festival.
