Auli’i Cravalho laughed about her flag mishap at the 2017 Academy Awards ceremony.
Cravalho, who performed “How Far I’ll Go, ” was a hit at the awards, stunning viewers with her singing ability. The 16 year old Moana star also had a run in with a low hanging flag on Sunday night. The flag grazed her head while she was singing. Cravalho laughed off the incident.
“I’m glad someone noticed it,” said Cravalho during an interview on ABC News program, Good Morning America. “I did get a little bump on the head. It was just kind of like a, ‘Hey, you’re at the Oscars!’ It was a good reminder. Things happen and you just kind of got to roll with it.”
Cravalho did not let the flag ruin her night. Immediately afterwards, she tweeted that she was speechless and excited to be at the awards show.
“I have no words to fully describe it, which is why ‘Speechless’ was exactly the right caption for me,” said Cravalho. “I just felt so much love and support and I will remember this for the rest of my life.”
Cravalho also talked about two of her collaborators on the film, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, saying that they had been extremely supportive of her through the process.
“Lin-Manuel Miranda is ingenious through and through and Dwayne Johnson is someone that I had been inspired by since I was a young girl,” said Cravalho. “I’m still young but I will continue to look up to the both of them and it was wonderful being able to perform with them last night.”
