The 177 billion dollar man, Elon Musk, showed his down-to-earth side being the host for a much-anticipated episode of “Saturday Night Live.” First of all, the founder of SpaceX and CEO Tesla, made some jabs about his monotonal speech style saying that no one can tell when he’s making a joke. An example is him telling everyone how it’s an honor hosting SNL, and that he means. However, he has to tell everyone that he means it so they believe him. He also gets a bit personal saying that he’s the first one with Asperger’s syndrome to host the show or at least the first to admit it. This may be the first time the business magnate may have publicly alluded to his autism.

Musk also joked about his Twitter account and the tweets that led some critics to object to him being the host. He knows that some of his tweets are a bit outlandish, but he said “that’s just how my brain works.” His boast about him reinventing electric cars and sending people to Mars got his biggest laugh of the night. He realizes his eccentric nature and even asked if people really thought he was going to act normal. Musk made his appearance more personal by bringing his mother to the stage where she gave an account of how he was at the age of 12. After airing, some critics bashed him and said the show celebrated a guy with ridiculous wealth in a time of inequality and a person whose opinions downplayed the severity of the global pandemic.

NBC live-streamed the episode globally on YouTube for its first simultaneous global viewing. His first acting stab was in a skit called “Gen Z.” Even he mentioned that people needed to sit down because what he said, “might be a little cringe.” Additionally, he had small roles in a few other sketches in the show. A sketch that kind of mirrored his own life is “Weekend Update”, where he played a character named Lloyd Ostertag, a financial analyst. It also threw a bit of a plug for Musk’s favored cryptocurrency dogecoin. It’s most likely that Musk is the wealthiest host of SNL. However, the show’s experienced different hosts from business leaders, politicians, and more in over 4 decades of airing on TV.

Donald Trump also hosted twice in 2004 and 2015. The latter appearance was before he became president. The show focused a lot of sketches on him the following year even with all of the criticism after teaming up with him.
