After seven years of marriage, Flip or Flop stars Christina and Tarek El Moussa have finalized their divorce, a rep for Christina confirmed to People Magazine on Monday.
The reality TV stars publicly split in Dec. 2016 after a fight that led to a 911 call, and the removal of guns from the El Moussa’s home. In Jan. 2017, Tarek, 36, filed for divorce, but Christina, 34, didn’t file a response until August. Both parties cited “irreconcilable differences” and requested joint legal and physical custody of their two children.
“We are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” they said in a statement to Us Weekly at the time. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”
The couple have been amicably raising their daughter Taylor, 7, and son Brayden, 2– and continued to film their home improvement HGTV show, while also working as co-executive producers on a new show– Chi-Town Flop.
Reps for Tarek and Christina have yet to make any more comments, but the exes have each taken to Instagram to hint at the news.
‘I want to thank my family, friends, and supporters for all the love and kind words the past few years,’ Christina wrote in a post. ‘Officially ready for the next chapter Life’s too short to tolerate negativity … #choosehappiness’
Tarek posted a black-and-white image of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson with the words, ‘Distance yourself from the people who, 1. lie to you, 2. disrespect you, 3. use you, 4. put you down’, followed by the caption: “I saw this on my feed and thought “Wow, what a true statement.”
