The Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe award winner, Glenn Close, has been lauded for numerous performances in movies. On Oscar night, she went viral for recognizing D.C. go-go band, E.U., and doing the famous 80s dance, “Da Butt.” After all, is said and done, she’s been nominated for an Oscar 8 times but without a single win. She competed for her fourth best-supporting actress award last month at the Academy Awards but didn’t go away with the title. Emmy winner Sarah Paulson wanted to put the noise rest saying that she wishes this conversation would stop because she’s brilliant and continues to have an impressive career.
The 74-year old told The Associated Press said she didn’t see the article or Paulson’s tweet but said that she didn’t see herself as a loser. Furthermore, she stated that no one in that category is a loser. It’s an honor being in a group of five of your peers to get nominated for an award. Also, she goes on to say how the press focuses on the fickle things like “worst dressed.” That type of thing doesn’t matter. In her illustrious career, she’s won and been nominated multiple times for films, such as “Fatal Attraction”, “Dangerous Liaison”, and “The Wife.” Close said it felt great to see her peers after being homebound for more than a year due to the pandemic. She said even though they were socially distanced and “tested up the wazoo” it great to talk to people’s work you’ve seen and loved. She said it felt great to show appreciation to those who put in the work and inspired you.
One of the last projects Close worked on before the pandemic hit was a spoken word Jazz album with Grammy-award-winning musician, Ted Nash. It was recorded at the Lincoln Center in New York City. She’s finally returning to NYC after a year. She said she feels that millions have changed and are still disturbed by the pandemic. It’s going to take time to pay attention to where you are and really see how it was difficult to deal with things. She said it’s been an experience and a lot of stories will come out of this pandemic. Close has been living in Montana since 2019, and she said she truly values being together with people. She feels fortunate to have been close with her family throughout the pandemic.
She filmed “Swan Song” in Canada alongside Oscar-winning actor, Mahershala Ali. It was different for her because everyone was wearing masks and you only got to see their eyes. As an actress, she said the main focus was looking into the eyes and hanging onto them. She can’t wait to get to a time where she can see whole faces again after the pandemic is put behind us.
