Universal Studios China said on Monday that its first theme park in the nation will open in September in Beijing.

According to a statement and video broadcast on the Chinese social media site WeChat, the corporation has scheduled the opening date for Sept. 20.

The theme park, which has been under development since 2016, has gotten substantial support from Beijing officials, including the extension of one of the city’s main subway lines to the site.

The resort has two hotels in addition to rides, performances, restaurants, and displays. Universal’s other two Asian parks, in Japan and Singapore, will be enhanced under this project.

Along with the Minions from the “Despicable Me” movies, the Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Kung Fu Panda film franchises are strongly featured.

Tourists have long been drawn to Beijing’s historic landmarks. Although the coronavirus pandemic curbed a fast expanding demand for domestic travel and tourism, new cases of local transmission have been declining, giving the tourism industry reason to be optimistic.
