The Duchess of Sussex won the latest round of her long-running privacy battle against a British tabloid publisher for publishing portions of a letter she wrote to her divorced father.
The Court of Appeal in London affirmed a High Court finding that the publisher of The Mail on Sunday and the MailOnline website violated Meghan Markle’s privacy by publishing a major portion of a handwritten letter she sent her father, Thomas Markle, after she married Prince Harry in 2018.
The ruling was challenged by Associated Newspapers in the Court of Appeal, which held a hearing last month. Senior judge Geoffrey Vos dismissed the appeal, telling the court on Thursday that “the Duchess had a legitimate expectation of privacy in the contents of the letter.” Those contents were personal and private, and they were not topics of justifiable public concern.”
The publisher expressed its disappointment and said it was considering filing an appeal with the UK Supreme Court.
