It’s been an amazing time for music, especially with the world opening up more and more these days. The Billboard Awards just showed this and how it was a big family gathering for celebrities and their loved ones. Pink had an amazing acrobatic performance alongside her daughter, Willow. Drake accepted the honor “artist of the decade” while holding his 3-year-old son, Adonis. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
While accepting his award, he dedicated it to his friends, family, long-time collaborators, and his son. Since his first song placed on Billboard 100 back in 2009, he’s had quite an extensive run with 232 entries. Record-breaking status. Also, he’s been able to extend his record of most awards on Billboard to 29 wins. It’ll be exciting to see what happens after he drops his new album “Certified Lover Boy.”
Pink also had some special moments by receiving the Icon Award. Also, she got to perform with her daughter showing off acrobatics and aerials, which she’s become well-known to do during high-energy stage shows. Not to mention, they performed “Cover Me In Sunshine”, which features vocals from her 9-year-old daughter. After the performance, Pink said to her daughter “Willow, you nailed it.”
This was certainly a proud mother and daughter moment. Pink loves what she does and said she thanks everyone that came out to see her performance. Live performances were held outdoors while everyone wore masks to help promote a safer awards show.
The Weeknd has a true classic on his hands with his 2020 album “After Hours”. A year later and he’s still receiving a lot of praise for the project. He walked into the event with 16 nominations and received 10 wins – the most of the night. Some of the awards he received include the top Hot 100 song for his diamond-selling single “Blinding Lights” and the top R & B album for “After Hours.”
After receiving his awards, he thanked his parents as well as the fans. The late rapper Pop Smoke also got some just due by winning five awards posthumously. His mother accepted the awards and thanked the fans for helping to continue his legacy.
The performances helped to bring back that live in-person feel that’s been missing from entertainment for over a year. Some of the top performers of the night included a collaborative performance with DJ Khaled, Migos, and H.E.R. to start the night off just right. Doja Cat and SZA had an amazing performance as well. Alicia Keys celebrated the 20-year anniversary of her debut album “Songs In a Minor.” She sang her hit song “Fallin” and she was introduced by former first lady, Michelle Obama.
