Rihanna is mourning the death of her 21-year-old cousin Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, who was reportedly shot on Tuesday Dec. 26 in her home country of Barbados.
The Work singer spent the holidays at home with her family marking the last moments she spent with Alleyne before his passing. She took to Instagram to pay tribute and to call for an end to gun violence.
“RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms!” she captioned a series of four photos with Alleyne. “Never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man! #endgunviolence.”
According to Barbados Today, around 7 pm on Tuesday Alleyne was walking around a track near his home in St. Michael, Barbados when a man approached him and shot him multiple times before fleeing from the scene. Authorities are still investigating Alleyne’s murder.
In a post from February, Alleyne celebrated his superstar cousin in a birthday post— with a picture that Rihanna used in her tribute as well.
“Every day we are happy to have you in our lives,” he captioned the photo. “Happy Birthday cousin, we really love you. Your presence in my life is a source of joy and happiness. To my favorite cousin, may all your dreams and wishes come true. #LoveYouLoads #wishyoumanymoretocome.”
